The department was established in 1972. In 1981, a dual-class system was implemented. By 1991, the department moved from Duxin Hall to the Electrical Engineering Building and established the Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering (Master’s Program), with research focused on Power & Energy, Intelligent Control, Communications, and Electronic Circuits.

In 1999, the Doctoral Program and the In-Service Master’s Program were launched, aiming to cultivate more advanced professionals in the field of electrical engineering.
