Established in 1996, this was the first department founded under CYCU’s College of Humanities and Education. In 1997, the department admitted its first cohort, making CYCU the first private university in Taiwan to participate in the training of special education teachers. In July 2001, the first class of 55 students graduated.
Today, the vast majority of graduates serve as full-time teachers in special education or resource classes at elementary and junior high schools, while others work in related social welfare organizations. In 2006, the department launched its Master’s Program in Special Education.
