The Department of Chemistry at Chung Yuan Christian University was established in 1955. Over more than six decades of continuous development and innovation, the department has built a strong faculty team and advanced facilities. In 1974, it jointly established the Graduate Institute of Applied Chemistry with the Department of Chemical Engineering. In 1981, the institute was divided into the Graduate Institute of Chemical Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Chemistry.
In 1983, the department received approval from the Ministry of Education to launch a doctoral program, strengthening the integration of academic research and practical application. In 1999, in response to Taiwan’s social and economic changes, the Ministry of Education’s initiative to align education with national development, and the university’s institutional plans, the department was restructured into two tracks: Chemistry and Materials Chemistry, each admitting one class. At the same time, an in-service master’s program was also introduced.
With a strong focus on both theoretical knowledge and practical training, student quality has consistently improved. Graduates have gone on to pursue advanced studies abroad or build successful careers in industry, earning the department a solid reputation.
The Department of Physics at Chung Yuan Christian University was established in 1955 and is one of the university’s four founding departments. With a history of over 60 years, the department has long been committed to academic excellence.
In 1974, to expand research and cultivate high-tech talent, the Graduate Institute of Applied Physics (Master’s Program) was established. Its faculty consists of professors from both the Department of Physics and related departments within the College of Engineering.
The department was established in September 1962 with the goal of cultivating students’ fundamental understanding of mathematics, laying the foundation for advanced studies and nurturing outstanding mathematical talent, as well as contributing to the nation’s pool of applied science professionals.
In 1985, the Graduate Institute of Applied Mathematics was established to deepen research and train talent in mathematical applications. In 1995, it was renamed the Graduate Institute of Mathematics, and a doctoral program was added, providing students with opportunities to pursue advanced studies in mathematics.
Starting from the 2002 academic year, the department was renamed the Department of Applied Mathematics. The undergraduate program was reorganized into three tracks: Mathematics, Statistics, and Information Science. The graduate program offers three corresponding divisions:
In 2006, an in-service master’s program was introduced, offering tracks in Mathematics and in Actuarial Science & Finance.
